Drone maker DJI has announced a new type of drone called FPV. As per the company, the DJI FPV combines the first-person view and high-speed performance of racing drones, the camera sweep of traditional drones, the safety and transmission technology of DJI’s consumer drones, and an optional motion controller to control the drone with hand movements.
DJI FPV can be purchased from store.dji.com and from authorized retail partners in several options. The standard DJI FPV Combo with the FPV drone, remote controller 2, FPV Goggles V2, all required cables and one battery comes at $1,299.
The DJI FPV system comes with the drone, goggles, a dedicated remote controller, and the motion controller. The FPV system uses O3, the third iteration of DJI’s proprietary OcuSync technology. It allows pilots to see in low-latency high definition through the drone’s perspective.
The device comes with three distinct flight modes: Normal, Manual and Sport. In the Normal mode, the drone hovers in place with the use of GPS and/or visual positioning systems (VPS). The Manual mode lets you take full control of the drone and all hovering features and sensors are disabled. The Sport mode is a combination of the Normal and Manual modes. It combines some of the movement capabilities of the Manual mode with some of the safety features of the N mode.
The safety features in the DJI FPV drone include a new Emergency Brake, Hover feature, GPS-based geofencing and an ADS-B receiver system to warn pilots in case of proximity with other aircraft.
