Geneva [Switzerland], April 27 (ANI): International Air Transport Association (IATA) says it is encouraged by comments from Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission (EC), that the EU will grant unrestricted access to vaccinated travelers United States.
“This is a step in the right direction. It gives people hope for so many reasons: to travel, to meet loved ones, to develop business opportunities or to return to work. To fulfill that hope, the EC details the intentions. they are essential, “said Willie Walsh, director general of IATA.
To be fully prepared, he said, it is imperative that the EC work with industry so that airlines can plan public health parameters and deadlines that allow unconditioned travel to vaccinated people, not just from the United States, but from all countries. who use vaccines. which are approved by the European Medicines Association.
“Equally critical will be clear, simple and secure digital processes for vaccination certificates. The IATA Travel Pass can help industry and governments manage and verify the status of vaccination, as with test certificates. But we are still waiting for the development of globally recognized standards for digital vaccine certificates, ”Walsh said.
While IATA welcomed President von der Leyen’s comments, he said freedom of travel should not exclude those who cannot be vaccinated. The presentation of negative COVID-19 test results should also facilitate the trip.
“Freedom of travel should not be restricted to only those who have access to vaccines. Vaccines are not the only way to reopen borders safely. Government risk models should also include evidence of COVID-19, ”Walsh said. (ANI)
