Information technology services continue the process of migrating Box data to Microsoft 365 cloud storage services. Starting this week, Box users will migrate in waves or user groups based on the size of your Box accounts.
Users will be assigned to a wave based on their current usage and data storage in Box. You can see which wave is assigned to you and when you have tentatively scheduled the migration to OneDrive using the search tool of the HIS Box website.
During the migration, users will receive an email notification three days before the date of the data migration, as well as a reminder on the day of the migration. Once data migration begins, your Box account will be set to “Read Only”, your Box data will not be changed, and the ability to sync folders and files to your desktop will be turned off. After the migration, the user will start using Microsoft OneDrive as the primary data storage tool.
Before migrating, follow these guidelines:
Don’t start moving now. Expect to receive an email notification from information technology services, which will provide you with tools and resources to migrate Box data.
Start cleaning now. Delete unnecessary files and delete files or folders you don’t want or need. When you have finished cleaning, remember to empty the Box trash.
Do not use / purchase other storage platforms for University data. HIS believes that Microsoft 365 (OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams) will provide campus users with the best and most secure cloud storage experience.
You can find training resources on how to use Microsoft services, as well as general information about the project, online.
