The volume and speed of data needed for cloud control can make the task a major challenge for any organization. Tool holders like Prometheus i OpenMetrics we work to make real-time tracking as convenient as possible, even as cloud operations become larger.
Real-time analysis is also becoming increasingly important, as post-event analysis can provide information that is no longer useful or relevant.
“‘If you just throw it in a data lake and do batch analysis like half a day later, no one cares anymore’ said Richard Hartmann (pictured), community director of Grafana Labs Inc. “It has to be live … or at least most of it has to be live. You have to be able to warn at this time if there is something imminent towards the customer ”.
Hartmann spoke to him John Furrier, host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s live streaming studio, during KubeCon + CloudNativeCon. There was talk of Prometheus, OpenMetrics and the challenges that have arisen with the growth of cloud computing. (* Disclosure below.)
New standards for cloud control
As more companies move into native cloud space, they are able to scale different new axes, allowing for growth, different operating models, and the ability to choose different or more modern engineering commitments, according to Hartmann .
“The underlying problems remain the same, but you just have to cut and dice your problems and share your services differently, ”he said. “But the problem is that it extends further and the most classic tool is usually built for these small classic configurations and architectures. As your architecture becomes more malleable and how you can choose and choose how to make it grow along which axis … this limits capacity of the humans who actually operate this system to understand what is really going on.“
Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and other automation tools help change the data equation by streamlining this new level of observability and the company’s scalability.
“A lot of that is about enabling that higher volume of data, that higher data scale, that higher cardinality of what you actually attach as metadata to your data, and yet being able to query all of that and give “I heard it on a scale and at great speed,” Hartmann said.
AAs cloud infrastructure increases, it is also essential that organizations develop a common language of open standards that ensures communication between different systems and between multiple end users.
“Because you have that‘ lingua franca, ’you have these open standards widely adopted,” Hartmann said.
